What we check on a Grizzly
Belt glazing on the Ultramatic drive
Every Grizzly runs a belt and centrifugal clutch. A glazed belt slips under load up a bank, or leaves a hot rubber smell after towing. Tell us when it was last changed.
Grizzly EPS unit
EPS is the biggest single value driver on a Grizzly 700. We check the steering is light at walking pace and the EPS light goes out once it's running.
On-Command diff lock
On-Command lets you pick 2WD or 4WD, with diff lock on top. We try each mode and check the display agrees.
Independent rear suspension
Grizzly 700s and 450s have IRS, which means rear driveshaft boots and bushes to wear. We look for splits and play at the wheel.
Hours and belt-change record
Photograph the hour reading. Belt-change notes tell us more than oil stamps alone.
Why the Grizzly 700 EPS holds its value
If you want to sell a Yamaha Grizzly, the 700 EPS is where the money is. It's Yamaha's top utility quad. The engine is a big fuel-injected single, all four wheels are independently sprung, and it has diff lock and power steering.
That leaves two questions for our offer. Does the EPS work? And what state is the belt in? Get both right and a high-hours Grizzly still makes good money.
Grizzly or Kodiak?
Grizzly is the higher-spec one. If the side panels say Kodiak, you've got Yamaha's cheaper, simpler work quad. Our page on selling a Yamaha Kodiak covers that.
Finding the VIN on a Grizzly's left frame rail
Kneel on the left and look low on the frame rail, between the front A-arm mounts and the engine. Mud flaps can hide it. Our frame number finder covers older models too.
An unregistered farm Grizzly is fine with a dealer invoice, and a registered one will have a V5C, but either way we look at your photo ID and compare the frame number with that paperwork before we pay.
Grizzly prices: 700 EPS down to the 350
A late 700 EPS with low hours and a belt-change record is top of the tree. Next come the 550 and 450. The carb 660 and the little 350 sit lower, and on those the condition counts for more than the badge.

Does EPS make much difference to the price?
A fair bit. EPS Grizzlies are the ones buyers look for.
How many hours is too many?
There's no cut-off. High-hour Grizzlies are still wanted, and the hours simply go into the figure.
Do you buy old Grizzly 660s?
We do, and it doesn't matter if it runs. The 660 was built from 2002 until the 700 took over.
The belt is slipping. Should I replace it first?
No need. Fitting a new belt yourself rarely pays back. Tell us it slips and we'll allow for a replacement.
