South and the central belt
TD covers the Borders round Kelso and Hawick. DG is Dumfries and Galloway. In the central belt, EH is Edinburgh and G is Glasgow. Lanarkshire is ML. Ayrshire is KA. FK takes in Stirling and Falkirk, and KY is Fife.
North of the Tay
PH is Perthshire and on up towards Pitlochry. DD is Dundee and Angus. AB is Aberdeenshire. IV runs from Inverness right across the Highlands, KW is the far north, and PA reaches out through Argyll.
Island machines are different, because they need a ferry. Orkney, the Western Isles and the Inner Hebrides all have regular car ferries, but getting a trailer onto one takes booking ahead, so the more notice you can give us the better. Tell us which island when you ask for a price and we'll say straight away what we can do.
What Scottish farms and estates sell
Hill farms run on quads. They gather sheep off ground a tractor can't touch, and they carry feed out in the snow. Hours like that are normal up here, so a high reading on a Honda TRX or a Yamaha Grizzly doesn't scare us. We price it as a working machine. Which it is.
Sporting estates
Grouse moors and deer forests keep UTVs and Gators for the keepers, often with a cab and a winch fitted. If the estate company owns the machine, we'll need a letter saying you can sell it, along with the company's proof of purchase.
Salt air on the west coast
Machines kept near the sea or on the islands rust underneath faster than inland ones. Photograph the frame and the racks from below. It saves a surprise on the day.
Scotland's access rights don't cover engines
The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives walkers and cyclists a right of responsible access to most land. Motor vehicles aren't included. Anything with an engine or a battery needs the landowner's permission. Anywhere.
Most Sur-Ron, Talaria, Stark Varg and E Ride Pro models are not road legal. They're for private land with the landowner's permission, and tracks. We never suggest riding a non-road-legal bike on public roads.

The long run north from Kent
From our base in Kent it's a full day's drive to the Highlands. Caithness is further still. So we fix the collection day when we send the offer, before you've agreed to anything, and collection is free. The distance doesn't come off the figure.
Paperwork works the same as anywhere else in Britain. The DVLA registers Scottish machines too, so a V5C is a V5C. Most hill quads were never registered at all, and for those the dealer invoice or a receipt does the job. Selling several machines from one farm? My hill quad was never registered. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Lots of Scottish farm quads never went near the DVLA. A dealer invoice or a receipt from whoever sold it to you proves it's yours, as long as the frame number matches.
Do you buy from sporting estates and farm companies?
Yes. Bring a letter showing the business owns the machine and that you're allowed to sell it, plus your own photo ID.
